I’m anti-military but I have an interest for monument dedicated to the men and women fightying for our coutry. There is always a special atomosphere in these place. This is a detail from the “Monument aux morts” in Nice.

It’s tough finding some time posting some pictures nowadays. But look at the reward!! Pretty soon I’ll have a show at my place with my 3 kids!! Piano, dancing, guitar … Maybe I could sing as well and my wife could do some magic tricks!!

Finally we’re back in business at 400iso.com ! It’s been a while since I have posted anything but I had a good reason. We’ve moved
back to France and as you know, it takes time to settle in. In my new company, there is a photo club ! You can imagine my interest for it and I’ve started to participate. Topic of the month was: Shapes and outline. Took this one in Nimes. It reminded me of what’s happening to us … Changing life … taking a curve …
I’ll try to post as much as possible in the futur. But bare with me … We’re far from settled !

This piano might have been used to play some masterpiece … Needs to get fixed though … This is my entry for this week PhotoFriday !

I’ve finally taken the Leica IIIf and its summitar 50mm f/2 out of the closet this week-end and shot a roll of Neopan. The fingerprint of this lens is pretty amazing. It take you back 30 years back in time. There is something about it that I can’t describe. It feel just right …

mmm .. Mais qui cela peut il bien etre ?

mmm … I wonder who that could be …

Too much color on this blog !! I had to post some black and white … Some fashion samples …

Going to Scotland require to take pictures of some sheeps. This is exactly what I did !!!

Went to Antoine’s birthday this week-end with my Canonet QL17 … I haven’t use it in a while. It was a good occasion. I’ve guesstimated the exposure on this one and I was very happy with the result !! My Canonet never fails me …

This was taken in Nara while visiting the huge park leading to the Daibutsu Den (the largest wooden structrure in the world). There were plenty of school kids our for the day for what it seems was a school trip. They were everywhere ! It gave a very nice atmosphere to the place. These three were resting and chating.

I don’t really like to post pictures of me on my blog … But I kindda like this one .. Leica IIIf + Canon 50mm f/1.5 - Neopan 400 pushed at 800 in Microphen.

I picked up a Rollei 35S and shot one test roll. I need to get used to the scale focusing but its lens is pretty amazing ! Really nifty camera that I can bring everywhere !

Ma fille Manon avec son petit frere ... Elle a tellement grandit depuis quelques jours ...

My daughter with one of the twin (probably Leo ) … She grew so much in the past few days …

Voila l'arrivee tant attendu !

Well, this is it folks. The family has been extended to 5 ! Leo and Nicolas were borned December 19th as planned. Everything went fine and they both come back home tomorrow with my very courageaous wife. Something different is about to begin, very exciting !!
Happy Christmas all !!

Well, we’re D-7 before the launch and I can’t resist to show you a closer look. Yes, they’ve got to get out !

Ben oui .. Ca arrive ... :-)

Medium format photography has never been for me on the top of my list. I mean, I’ve read about it, about the larger negatives you get, the better contrast, but never gave too much thought. Oh these twin lens reflex look nice of course but they seemed a bit odd to use, not very convenient. And well, I was playing with my rangefinder anyway and very happy about it. Last week, a member on dslreports.com (cwnorris) offer to give his old Yashica Mat 124 to whoever is willing to pay shipping. This was on the Digital Imaging forum and not a lot of people are interested in film photography so the offer was there for me to grab. I thought to myself: "Oh boy, another old stuff which will end up in a box …" but I took on the offer. I received the package a few days later. To my surprise, this was a very nice setup ! The whole kit was in an old red steel box. The camera was in pristine condition ! I mean, no scuff anywhere to be seen. Lots of small accessories, leather pouch, a big flash from the old time, old battery, old lens cleaning solution and old cleaning paper !! Everything old but in perfect condition. I thought … Wow … This is nice !! But I really thought the camera would have a problem … Either a stuck shutter, slow speeds, some haze in the glass … I don’t know … Something wrong. Well I had to try right ? So I bought some 120 black and white film at my local store, read the manual, mount the camera on the tripod and shot with a release cable my 12 exposures (with Neopan 400 pushed at 800). Mostly of my pregnant wife and my daughter of course. They’ve been very patient by the way … I spent something like 30 minutes to learn how to load a 120 film on my reel (what a pain in the neck !! I’m getting better though) and developed the film as usual. I was getting pretty serious about the whole things since the speeds on the camera seemed pretty accurate from the sound of it. I took the roll out of the tank. First I had something on the negatives which was already surprising … But then they looked stunning !!!!! Actually, these were my best negatives ever ! Lots of contrast and details everywhere. Exposure was spot on (I didn’t use the camera meter, which is functionning, but my more reliable Sekonic …) … It was a pleasure to look at ! I told my wife I didn’t even want to scan them (was affraid to be disapointed …) but just frame a couple !!
.. Anyway tonight I’ve spent some time scanning them (Epson 4490). Wow. This is what they were talking about … So much freaking details !!! Everywhere !! It’s unbelievable. Contrast is gorgeous ! I didn’t need to touch a thing !! I left the orange cast (I scan my black and white in color mode, just like everybody else I guess …) because I thought it added a "je ne sais quoi" touch
… It’s difficult to really realize the details you get with the picture I’m posting. I’ll write some more on the experience some other days. But I wanted to share with you this new adventure ! The whole experience reminds me of the pleasure I got when I first handled a Leica. Some kind of mystiscm around the whole thing. Of course, I bought some more films. I won’t use this camera on a daily basis. But I think I’m gonna have a lot of fun to use it with my twins (due in less than a week !! Stay tuned !) and will try to produce some nice pictures … The whole experience is really refreshing for me !!!
A big THANK YOU to cwnorris on dslreports.com. I think you’ve started something !!

My wife’s best friend Ingrid (you know, my Japanese’s guide ) came for the week-end as a surprise for my wife’s babyshower. I’ve been trying to capture some of the intimacy going on between these two as Ingrid was trying to see the twins moving … Very touching series of pictures in my mind. Taken with my newly acquired (yes another new camera, when will it end ?
) Yashica Lynx 14e from 1968 and it’s 45mm f/1.4 huge lens. Surprisingly sharp ! Film was Neopan 400 pushed at 800 developed in D76 stock (my new low light combo)

Tri-x poussee a 3200.

During my trip to Japan, we of course ended up in Kyoto in the Geisha area … We didn’t see that much and to be honest I was a bit disapointed … I guess I was expecting something else … But anyway, it was another opportunity for some interesting shots. Here are 2 of them. Tri-X at 3200.

I’m still trying to find my perfect low light combo before my twins arrive in December. I’ll have plenty of opportunity to shoot indoor and I want to be ready (assuming I have a bit of time for shooting and developing … Yeah right .. ) This afternoon I shot a roll of Neopan 400 pushed at 800 and I’ve developed in D76 Stock for 8.45 minutes. I’m really, really gl;ad with the result. Scanning is a dream, noise is very low !!! I’ve also took the opportunity to shoot with newly acquired Canon P and a lens I don’t use that often, the VC 90mm f/3.5. Excellent combo !!! The Canon P is definitely a keeper !!!

I’ve just tried NeatImage 5.0 on some of last week Ilford 3200 rolls and I have to say that I am very impressed by this piece of software ! I wrote an initial write-up on my experience which I thought could be useful to some people. HERE
I’ve used one of my latest daughter picture for the experiment

You might see some new pictures of babies on 400iso. My wife is due in December and should give birth to 2 (TWO) beautiful boys It’s always fun to document the pregnancy and I have the double bonus of my daughter having fun as well. She is pretending that she is expecting as well and wants to do everything like momy … Dad has fun too

This is my wife working on my Canonet. I like these kind of pictures, just showing hands.

I’ve realized that visiting Japan without a guide could be quite a bit challenging. Japanese is of course the main reason if you can’t read/speak it and most people don’t speak english. I was fortunate to have the best guide in town ! My good friend Ingrid took a week off and took me everywhere ! She speaks fluently and knows the area pretty well. And have a motorcycle which is perfect to visit Tokyo. Anyway, this was the best guide I could dream of ! This picture was actually taken in Nara while we were enjoying a nice evening in a typical Japanese pub. I thin we ended up drunk though

I’ve posted some black and white shots (XP2) taken with my Canon f/1.2. As you can see, results are on par with color: Great bokeh and acceptable contrast. This one is a shot of my good friend Alex from califoto.com who is playing with his newly acquired Canon QL17 (I sold it to him ! But don’t worry, I have another one )Other pictures can be seen in the review here
