Abandonned newspaper
Thursday 28 July 2005 @ 1:21 am

Saw this newspaper on some stairs in San Francisco. I really liked the contrast between the paper and these dark stairs. I felt they were meant to be. And every day they play the same play …

Writing lesson
Tuesday 26 July 2005 @ 2:34 am

One of the reason I got interested in photography, was to be able to document some key memory for my daughter. My parents did it for me (I always spend hours going thru family album when I go back home) and I wanted to do it for her. Writing is one of this moment. Of course she’s only 2.5 years old and doesn’t write yet. But she sure know how to use that pen ! :-)

Wake up America !
Saturday 23 July 2005 @ 8:06 pm

This is one of the thing I like about the United States. Crazy people (sometime just acting crazy …) in the street shouting whatever is on their mind at that moment. Reading the bible, complaing about this and that … In Europe, we complain a lot as well, but we do it in group. It’s very unusual to see someone by himself trying to make a point. This guy was the best and the message … Well, it’s up to you. I think he has some good point .. :-) Maybe a little extreme, but definitely confident about his point of view !! Only in the US …

Kindda blue
Friday 22 July 2005 @ 9:21 pm

Well blue ie is indeed. This was an interesting sculpture in San Francisco, with a magnificient blue which remind me of the “Bleu klein” which I’m familiar with since Yves Klein used to expose quite a bit at the Art Museum in Nice (my home town). So when I saw this color, I was a bit back in Nice … :-)

Scary Poster
Wednesday 20 July 2005 @ 1:41 am

I love to look at panel of poster in the street, especially if they’re been torned apart. This was the case with this one. I have no idea what the scary part is all about. Maybe something about a movie, but it sure got my eyes !! All the colors blend well togeteher, I couldn’t resist !

Silky leg
Monday 18 July 2005 @ 12:59 am

Oh my … This is a leg festival !! Well I’ve just received the authorization from my friend (whose name shall remains unidentified) to post this picture for this week’s photofriday.com challenge. I thought of that picture right away when I saw the theme of this week’s challenge: Silky. This is also my choice for the Best of 2005 theme. Silky leg

Legs
Monday 18 July 2005 @ 12:38 am

I’ve promised color pictures, here is one from my walk in San Francisco this week-end. I actually passed in front of that woman and I thought to myself “She has some nice legs !!” .. As I was walking away I thought to myself “She really had great legs !!!”. I turned around and shot. :-) At least she doesn’t have to sign a release form to be on 400iso.

I have finally decided to load my M6 with a roll of Reala 100. It’s been months since I haven’t shoot color and it’s been long enough in my mind. We’re going to San Francisco this week-end and you can expect some color pictures on 400iso next week ! Aren’t you excited ? :-)

To kick off this color serie, a picture of my lovely wife taken last year. Playing hide and seek with my daugther :-)

Best friends
Wednesday 13 July 2005 @ 1:23 am

My daughter with her best friend. This was one of the first picture where I was satisfied with my new 35mm Summicron pre-ASPH. For some reaosn I have difficulty getting the kind of result I’m looking for. I guess I have to get used to the lens … But I kind of understand why it is called the king of bokeh. It is indeed very smooottthhh.

Quiet trail
Saturday 9 July 2005 @ 3:56 pm

We did a 12 miles trail while in Lassen. It was very refreshing and it felt good to do some exercise … After all all we do all week long is sit on our chair (well, it’s the case for me anyway …). I like the atmosphere of this picture, the light … Feel very quiet.

Downtown Windows
Friday 8 July 2005 @ 6:20 pm

I’m receiving increasing pressure to release more pictures and even migrating my old pictures to this new template (Pat from nordilux.com) .. I thought about migrating my old pictures but first of all it’s going to be a lot of work for me ;-) and then I think things need to move forward not backward. So I’m just going to release new material. This one is old (but never released !) taken last year in downtown San Jose. Yes. Downtown. San Jose. There are some photographic opportunity in that city. This was one of them :-)

Homelessness
Friday 8 July 2005 @ 12:46 pm

I’ve entered this picture for the Photo Friday challenge for the week of 07/08/2005. The category was candid. I’ve always feel a little nervous about releasing this picture on my blog. Maybe because I was ashamed of myself for not talking to that person after I took the picture. Maybe because I don’t give enough to the homeless in San Francisco. Maybe because I have everything one could hope and they have nothing. This is a very common picture in San Franciso unfortunately and we don’t notice anymore, unless I have my camera with me … Do I want to raise the awarness … ? Yeah right. It’s not like nobody notices …

I don’t know. It’s just a picture.

Landscape phorography - Not for me
Thursday 7 July 2005 @ 2:50 am

We went camping to Lassen volcanic National Park with a bunch of friends for July 4th week-end. I was very excited about the photographic opportunity. Unfortunately I forgot how bad I was at landscape photography … As I scan my negatives I feel shame all over me. Damn, why is it so complicated ? Maybe I should have used color instead of B&W. Maybe it’s more forgiving … I don’t know. Damn …
Here is the only one I kind of like so far …

Film is dead ?
Wednesday 6 July 2005 @ 2:49 pm

I don’t understand some people. This guy is trying to demonstrate that film is doomed. “Film is dead as sure as the LP is dead.” … Well looks like the guy is malinformed. There is still plenty of new LPs released every day. Is it for everybody ? Of course not. It’s called a niche market and this is probably what is going to happen to film as we know it. Am I going to be able to find black and white film in 20 years ? Yes of course, I have no doubt. Is it going to be Tri-X or Neopan (my 2 favorite films …), probably not. Is it going to be more expensive ? You betcha. Is it a problem ? Well, it depends on your financial situation of course :-)
Why are people so worry about the future of film ? Because they love it so much ? This is understandable but they need to understand that there is still money to be made with film. And as long as there is money to be made, film will exist.

Back to portrait
Wednesday 6 July 2005 @ 1:51 am

One of the nice thing about my Canon Elan 7e was that 85mm f/1.8 I was using. A very fine lens and I’ve made some very good pictures of my daughter with it. One of my concern when switching entirely to Leica was the fact that my M6 0.72 might not be the best tool for portrait. I bought essentially the M3 to fill the gap and I bought a Tele-Elmarit 90mm f/2.8 along with it. This was my first roll with this fine lens. Right now it’s on CLA at Golden Touch but it should come back soon and I’ll definitely shoot more with it !
