Technical difficulty
Wednesday 19 October 2005 @ 3:28 pm

400iso is going thru some changes (Mostly transfering registar …) and should experience some technical difficulty during the next few days or so. Sorry for the inconvenience. I know that it’s tough to survive without a daily dose of 400iso :-)

Bad news for film …
Wednesday 19 October 2005 @ 1:59 pm

Well, this is another bad news for all film lovers. Looks like Agfa decided to reject the offer from PhotoMe to takeover their film operation … (more details HERE … I guess this is good news for Ilford and Fuji but it still worry me … I was planning on adding another rather expensive piece of equipment at the end of the year (M7 ? MP ? Make a guess :-) ) but I’m a little unsure at this point. After my trip to Japan I’m getting less and less interested in Digital … I had so much pleasure using my 2 Leica that I can’t think of using something else …
I also have a problem with this news since my main developer is Rodinal … I guess I’ll have to buy one or two gallon … Dang !

To AdSense or not AdSense
Tuesday 18 October 2005 @ 2:28 pm

I’ve been debating with myself a lot with the Google AdSense program but without really knowing what it does, how to use it and the added value around it. So today, I’ve decided to join the program and add a few ad on my photoblog. Multiple reasons for this decision:

1/ I want to learn what it really does
2/ I’d like to know if it add values to my visitor (U tell me …)
3/ I wouldn’t mind some revenue to cover some of my developement cost (There, I said it.) I realize that my trip to Japan had a cost (other than airplane, foods …). With 26 rolls of film and the associated development (yes I have been lazy for the black and white and gave the rolls to a lab …) we’re looking at a $400ish bill. I don’t regret one picture I took during the trip. But I realize that with the good news coming at the end of the year (more on this later … :-) ) I’m going to need to start saving. If I could cover some of the cost with the AdSense program, it would be stupid not to try. So there it is. I have no idea if I’m going to make a buck in a year … I’m curious and this is also why I had to try it :-)

Thanks for your understanding :-)

Conspicious
Friday 14 October 2005 @ 1:56 am

It’s pretty difficult not to take a picture in a Japanese garden in Tokyo. Even more difficult, not taking picture of a bridge in a Japanese garden. Well, here is my contribution to this week Photo Friday’s challenge: Conspicious.

Tsukiji fish market part II
Wednesday 12 October 2005 @ 11:52 pm

Another shot from the same day. This guy was preparing some sole for a customer. These sole are still alive. He cuts both the tail and the head. The fish is still alive at this point. He then takes a long stick of metal, put that in the fish body and pull it very fast to cut the vertabrae. At this point the fish should be gone … Most of the time :-)

Tsukiji fish market
Wednesday 12 October 2005 @ 11:50 pm

I had the chance to visit the largest fish market in Tokyo: The Tsukiji. It’s an amazing place where mostly professional can get any kind of fish in any quantity. It was very interesting to see them preparing the fish (especially the huge tuna they had …) and some kind of fish that I didn’t know existed :-) Not that I am a fish specialist. In any case, if you have the chance to go to Tokyo this is a must do.

A Japanese funeral
Tuesday 11 October 2005 @ 12:16 am

Another shot from the funeral. This guy was playing the rather odd instrument which can produce aproximately 2 sounds but had a huge musical partition in front of him. Well I guess I know nothing about music … :-) It was quite funny anyway.

Izakaya
Monday 10 October 2005 @ 1:28 am

This was taken during my first day in Tokyo. These are awsome little restaurants called Izakaya where you can eat some very simple food with some beer. Nothing fancy but the astmosphere is so relax and casual. It reminds me in a way of Tapas restaurant in Spain. These small restaurants were located right under the train tracks ! Very interesting setting … Anyway, it was the perfect place to start my trip …

Note: All my black and white picture from Japan are taken with my Leica M3 and a VC 50mm f/1.5 with Neopan 400. The color pictures (which will come this week …) were taken using my Leica M6 and 50mm Summicron with either Fuji Reala or Fuji NPH 400.

Five
Friday 7 October 2005 @ 3:01 am

This is my entry for this week PhotoFriday’s challenge “Five”. This was taken during my trip to Japan. We were visiting a temple (one of the few …) when a funeral started ! We’ve stayed and discovered their own way to say good bye … Note: Ok I have to admit, we see 6 monks on the pictures … But … But … C’mon !!!!! :-)

Crazy crossing
Friday 7 October 2005 @ 12:47 am

I’m finally back from Japan where I spent 10 fantastic days. Shot 26 rolls of film. Couldn’t be happier :-) You can expect a LOT of pictures from this trip. So stay tune ! Here is the first one which is the most famous crossing in Tokyo in a very hype neighboord. Too bad I couldn’t climb on that hotel on a Saturday. You’re supposed to get 10 times that many people …

Crazy brother
Friday 19 August 2005 @ 7:48 pm

This is a picture of my brother that I took a couple of years ago with a Sigma 24mm on a Canon body. Don’t get scared, he was just acting crazy, but it does fit really well with the personality of the guy :-) Anyway, I wanted him on my photoblog since he’s an important figure in my life.

One key at a time
Wednesday 17 August 2005 @ 1:39 am

This is a picture of my daughter taken this spring when we went with a bunch of friends Stinson Beach. Yes her face is blurry since I was focusing on her finger and was wide open … I thought I was on the same focus plane. But I really like the light on this one. I hope you like it too !

Qumana LE
Sunday 14 August 2005 @ 3:00 am

While reading one of my favorite blog  http://planetweb20.com/, I’ve noticed that they were praising a new editor for blog publishing. I had to try it immediatly ! And I have to admit that I’m quite impressed with it ! WYSIWYG editor, easy way to drag and drop pictures, URL, audio etc., easy way to insert Technorati tags … Basically, everything you would hope for in such editor. I strongly recommend it ! http://www.qumana.com/

Amazing Light
Saturday 13 August 2005 @ 2:16 am

This is my entry for this week’s Photo Friday challenge (”Purple”). This is an old shot of mine, taken with a Canon G2. A friend of mine offered me a flashing multi-color pen (!) that I’ve waved in front of the camera (on a tripod) for 8 seccond. Interesting results !! That’s something I like about digital. Being able to test stuff like that without worrying too much about film cost. I wouldn’t try that one with my Leica :-)

Untitled
Tuesday 9 August 2005 @ 11:36 pm

I’m always a bit hesitant taking picture of painting. After all, the real art is in the painting, not the photograph of the painting. But I like to share what I see, what I experience … And I wanted to share a small painting I saw the other day in San Francisco. Very colorful .. It really drew my attention.

Are you looking at me ?
Sunday 7 August 2005 @ 1:41 am

I was driniking a beer with a friend in San Francisco and I was taking picture of people passing in front of us. Looks like this girl saw my little game but I doubt she understood what I was doing with my small blue box :-)

Do you Lomo ?
Sunday 7 August 2005 @ 1:36 am

Well, it was meant to happen. As I experiment more and more with new gear, I had to stop at the Lomo corner. Just got a supersampler on the Bay and shot my first roll this afternoon. I have to admit that it is quite fun and it requires a completely new way of thinking and open up a whole new world of creativity. I’ll definitely carry this camera with me quite often …

Complexity
Friday 5 August 2005 @ 1:58 am

This is a picture for this week’s challenge at Photo Friday. This was taken in 2003 in Hawai … I like the complexity of the tree and of course the more deeper complexity of love engraved on these …

Music in Santa Cruz
Thursday 4 August 2005 @ 11:16 pm

It’s been a while since I’ve been to Santa Cruz. I really like the atmosphere of this city. Berkley like but a little cleaner with musicians everywhere ! These 2 were nice enough to play for my daughter !!

AMAZING picture of the day @ Outafocus: John.

Abandonned newspaper

Saw this newspaper on some stairs in San Francisco. I really liked the contrast between the paper and these dark stairs. I felt they were meant to be. And every day they play the same play …

Writing lesson
Tuesday 26 July 2005 @ 2:34 am

One of the reason I got interested in photography, was to be able to document some key memory for my daughter. My parents did it for me (I always spend hours going thru family album when I go back home) and I wanted to do it for her. Writing is one of this moment. Of course she’s only 2.5 years old and doesn’t write yet. But she sure know how to use that pen ! :-)

Wake up America !
Saturday 23 July 2005 @ 8:06 pm

This is one of the thing I like about the United States. Crazy people (sometime just acting crazy …) in the street shouting whatever is on their mind at that moment. Reading the bible, complaing about this and that … In Europe, we complain a lot as well, but we do it in group. It’s very unusual to see someone by himself trying to make a point. This guy was the best and the message … Well, it’s up to you. I think he has some good point .. :-) Maybe a little extreme, but definitely confident about his point of view !! Only in the US …

Kindda blue
Friday 22 July 2005 @ 9:21 pm

Well blue ie is indeed. This was an interesting sculpture in San Francisco, with a magnificient blue which remind me of the “Bleu klein” which I’m familiar with since Yves Klein used to expose quite a bit at the Art Museum in Nice (my home town). So when I saw this color, I was a bit back in Nice … :-)
